Rated number one as TripAdvisor’s Traveler’s Choice 2012, Ad Hoc is an intimate and romantic restaurant in which to enjoy typical Mediterranean and Roman cuisine.
Located in the center of Rome, the restaurant is in a converted sixteenth-century building, giving the place a great sense of history in the Eternal City.
Seating up to fifty people, with one room seating twenty-six, it is as great for large parties and private occasions as it is for parties of two.
Many ingredients go into the making of the exquisite dishes presented at Ad Hoc, but a few are standouts: rare black and white truffles are used for bold accents of flavor, salumi and cheese are aged in the restaurant’s stone caves, and a sublime olive oil, produced by the restaurant’s estate in Subiaco.
Start with one of their “tastings” of salumi, French soft cheeses or Italian aged cheese.
Move on to the “Ad Hoc” gnocchi, served with asparagus, tomatoes and parmesan in a crispy parmesan basket, or perhaps the hand made pasta cacio e pepe, that Roman classic of pecorino cheese and coarsely grated black pepper.
Try the roasted prawns, breaded and served with potato-stuffed mushrooms.
Of the meat secondi, definitely go with the roasted suckling pig with endive and zucchini.
There are special menus available for occasions such as New Year’s and Valentine’s Day, so be sure to check their website for any particular offerings when you visit.
